Start with Tasks

What is a Task?

As the name suggests, a task can be anything from "How do I resolve a linker command failed with exit code 1 error?" to "How do I undo commits in Git?" to "What restaurants are available for dinner?" It doesn't even have to be a question, another task could be "Picking a framework for a project".

A task represents a problem that you're trying to solve or a decision that you're trying to make. Once completed, it'll contain a descriptive name of the problem, all the information snippets you collected while you're searching and browsing, and the tables you build to make comparisons involving multiple options and criteria.

Tasks can be easily created, edited, or deleted. You can also make meta comments to a task or add it to starred.

Create a Task

As you start a task that you would like to keep track of using Unakite, just bring out the sidebar and click the Creating A New Task link.

If you already have existing tasks, you will find the new-task menu item in the task dropdown list.

Then, give your task a descriptive name on the next screen. You can paste from the webpage or just type. Don't worry, you can always change it later!

Hit "OK", and you're now on a new task! 🎆

Now start collecting whatever you found interesting into it using the clipper and organize the collected snippets right in the sidebar!

Mark a Task as Starred

To mark a task as starred, simply hit the Add to Starred button in the sidebar. The hollow star will turn to a solid one ⭐ once you have starred the task.

Edit the Name of a Task

To edit the name of a task, simply hit the Edit task name button in the sidebar.

Make Comments to a Task

To add some comments to a task, simply hit the Comments button in the sidebar to show/hide the comments section.

Add a New Comment

To add a new comment in the comment section, simply hover over the Add a comment textbox and start typing in your comment. Note that to go to a new line, you can use the Shift + Enter key combinations.

When finished, click the Save button or hit the Enter key to save it.

Edit or Delete a Comment

To edit or delete a comment, simply hit the three-dots button and choose either Edit or Delete. All edits are automatically saved in real-time. When finished editing, just click away or hit Enter.

Switch to Another Task

To switch to another task, simply select the task you would like to switch to from the task dropdown list in the sidebar.

See a Detailed View of the Current Task

To see a detailed view of the current task you are working on, simply hit the Open Task Detail Page button. It'll bring you to the Unakite Dashboard where you can view and edit all the snippets and tables in this task.

To see a list of all the tasks you have, simply hit the All tasks button.

Delete a Task

To delete a task, simply hit the Delete this task button in the sidebar. Note that you'll be prompted with a final confirmation on the next screen. If you are sure about it, hit OK, or otherwise hit Cancel. You will be able to undo the deletion within 5 seconds by clicking the Undo button in the snackbar.
